Probation law: prevention of new crimes in Kyrgyzstan

Almazbek Atambayev signed a law on probation. The Information Policy Department of the Presidential Administration reported.

According to it, the law was adopted by the Parliament on January 12.

«The law determines the goals, objectives, legal framework, principles and forms of probation in the Kyrgyz Republic as a social and legal institution of the state, designed to ensure re-socialization of convicted persons and their way out of a difficult situation, which led to the commission of a crime (offense)," statement said.

According to the law, authorized state body responsible for the execution of criminal penalties that are not connected with isolation from society, and enforcement of criminal law measures, supervision of persons, released on parole from correctional institutions, the implementation of social and legal assistance will be a probation authority.

Probation body shall assist in the re-socialization and way out of difficult situations.

All kinds of probation require involvement of the public and volunteers on a voluntary basis.

The law will enter into force on January 1, 2019. The term is necessary to take organizational measures on establishing the authorized body on probation.
