A working meeting chaired by Zhenish Seidaliev, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan, was held at the ministry to discuss the construction of a new sanitary municipal solid waste landfill in Kara-Balta.
Representatives of local authorities, ARIS, the Kara-Balta Mining Combine, Taldy-Bulak aiyl okmotu, and other stakeholders participated in the meeting.
This $4 million project is being implemented with grant support from Japan (JFJCM). It involves the construction of a pilot landfill using Fukuoka technology, which meets modern environmental and sanitary standards.
During the meeting, land plot selection, mechanisms for inter-municipal cooperation, and compliance with environmental protection requirements were discussed. The Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed its readiness to coordinate and support the project’s implementation.
«The city of Kara-Balta needs a modern and safe landfill. This is an important step toward improving the environmental situation and enhancing the quality of life for residents of the city and surrounding villages,» the First Deputy Minister Zhenish Seidaliev noted.
