President of Kyrgyzstan launches solar power plant in Issyk-Kul region

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov attended the launch of a solar power plant in Issyk-Kul region with a total design capacity of 1,900 megawatts.

The plant currently produces 175 megawatts. Investment at this stage has amounted to $130 million.

This plant will be the second largest after the Toktogul hydropower plant and is capable of generating up to 3.3 billion kilowatt-hours per year.

Launching the full cycle will help cover the electricity deficit in the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to Sadyr Japarov, after the first stage is fully operational, the plant is expected to generate approximately 295 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

«The generated electricity is primarily used to supply Cholpon-Ata and Balykchy. I hope that in the future, as the next stages of the project are implemented, the station will make a significant contribution to ensuring our country’s energy security and meeting domestic demand for electricity,» the president noted.

The head of state added that the Kyrgyz Republic has enormous potential in solar, hydro, and wind energy. Today’s project is one of the major and strategically important initiatives aimed at effectively leveraging these opportunities.

In July 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers and the company RECA LLC — ROX ENERGY GLOBAL (Vietnam) signed an investment agreement on the implementation of a project to build a solar power plant with a planned installed capacity of up to 1,900 megawatts in the village of Kyzyl-Oruk, Toru-Aigyr rural area of Issyk-Kul region.
