Kyrgyzstan to increase school meal funding

Starting January 1, 2027, the funding standard for school meals will be increased to 40 soms per day per student. The corresponding decision was made by President Sadyr Japarov.

Currently, meals for students in grades 1-4 are funded from the national budget at a rate of 14 soms per day per student.

Meanwhile, issues of children’s health, their adequate nutrition, and the development of sustainable foundations for a healthy lifestyle are key to the long-term socioeconomic development of the country.

In this regard, ensuring high-quality school meals is seen not only as a social obligation of the state but also as an investment in the country’s future.

In practice, raising the standard to 40 soms will allow for more frequent inclusion of meat, fish, and dairy products in the diet, expand the selection of fruits and vegetables, increase the variety of dishes, and improve the balance of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.

The head of state’s decision will help reduce disparities in school meal provision between regions of the republic and reduce the additional financial burden on families.

The Ministry of Finance has been instructed to allocate the necessary budgetary funds to finance the new school meal standard starting January 1 of next year.
