About 20,000 foreigners own real estate in Kyrgyzstan

About 20,000 foreigners own real estate in Kyrgyzstan. Deputy Head of the State Agency for Land Resources, Cadastre, Geodesy, and Cartography, Zhakshylyk Toktosunov, announced at a meeting of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Transport, Fuel and Energy Complex, Architecture, and Construction.

According to him, the agency’s registry contains 3,546,574 residential units of real estate.

«Overall, about 91,000 purchase and sale transactions were recorded in 2025—an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the previous period. Also, 34,000 property inheritance transactions were conducted,» Zhakshylyk Toktosunov noted.

MP Ulukbek Ormonov asked under which law foreigners acquire real estate in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The deputy head of the state agency noted that it is under the Land Code.

«Housing in the Kyrgyz Republic can be sold to foreigners, but the land underneath it is only transferred for temporary use for 49 years. If a Kyrgyzstani subsequently purchases this property, the land underneath the property will become his or her property,» he clarified.

The MP also added that there are cases where agricultural land is transferred to foreigners for use.

Zhakshylyk Toktosunov noted that agricultural land is not leased or sold to foreigners.
