The State Duma has passed in the second and third readings a law providing for a sharp increase in state duties in the migration sector. The document was initiated by the Russian government and introduces amendments to the country’s Tax Code.
Earlier, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said the measures would «help further restore order in the migration sphere.»
Lawmakers approved a 12-fold increase in the state fee for renouncing Russian citizenship — from 4,200 rubles to 50,000 rubles. The same fee will apply to citizenship processing procedures.
In addition, parliament adopted federal laws significantly increasing state duties for migrants:
- for obtaining a temporary residence permit — eightfold, from 1,920 rubles to 15,000 rubles;
- for obtaining a residence permit — fivefold, from 6,000 rubles to 30,000 rubles.
The fee for issuing permits to hire foreign workers has also been increased to 15,000 rubles.
