Uchkun OJSC will gradually increase the production of Kyrgyzstan’s own banknotes: starting with 20 soms, followed by 50, 100, and 200 soms denominations. The full transition to domestic production of all denominations will allow the country to stop ordering banknotes from abroad and reduce costs.
The company’s CEO, Baktybek Sultanov, reminded at a press conference that printing of the banknotes has already begun.
«We have purchased the equipment and will gradually increase the denominations. Previously, we had to pay large sums to have banknotes printed abroad. Now we can produce them ourselves,» he added.
It is worth noting that Uchkun OJSC has already established production of international passports, ID cards, driver’s licenses, and other government documents. The production of the new banknotes is being carried out in accordance with the decree of President Sadyr Japarov, who emphasized that the country has obtained an international certificate confirming compliance with currency manufacturing standards.
«Thanks to this certificate, the security of our products is at the highest level. It is impossible to counterfeit such banknotes or documents,» the president stressed.
According to Baktybek Sultanov, the production cost of a plastic ID card is 3 euros. This amount covers only the cost of the card itself. Uchkun then adds its markup, along with the services of the company Kyzmat and other enterprises involved in producing and issuing the card. This results in the final price that is currently in effect for citizens.
