The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported the discovery of violations during the preparatory phase of Kambar-Ata-1 hydropower plant project as part of its anti-corruption efforts in the energy sector.
Following investigative and operational activities, former Zhogorku Kenesh deputy Kunduzbek Sulaimanov and the heads of contracting companies were detained and placed in the SCNS pretrial detention facility.
According to investigators, Kunduzbek Sulaimanov, while in a position of authority, organized the patronage of a private company, lobbying for its interests in exchange for financial compensation.
Previously, specialists from the Economic Investigation Service of the Ministry of Justice discovered particularly large-scale damage to the state due to inflated work volumes by Naryn GES OJSC and contractors.
The SCNS noted that the investigation is ongoing. The possible involvement of those detained in other incidents is being established, as well as the circle of other officials who may have been involved in corruption schemes.
