Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev held talks with the Chair-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Ian Borg.
The meeting took place at Ala-Archa state residence.
«Today we held intense and meaningful negotiations on the entire range of interaction between the Kyrgyz Republic and the OSCE. We discussed current issues on the agenda facing the Malta’s chairmanship of the organization. Our country’s commitment to key democratic principles, the rule of law, the protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as freedom of speech and peaceful assembly was reaffirmed,» he said.
The official emphasized the importance of Kyrgyzstan’s accession to eight universal international human rights treaties.
«We welcomed the launch of the new master’s program «Human Rights and Sustainable Development» at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek last year. Much attention was paid to discussing issues related to supporting the organization in the implementation of national programs and projects in the Kyrgyz Republic aimed at overcoming economic challenges,» he added.
The parties also paid attention to security issues in the Central Asian region.
Jeenbek Kulubaev expressed confidence that the visit of OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg to the republic would give an additional impetus to the development of cooperation. «The Kyrgyz side intends to continue active interaction with the OSCE and is ready to contribute to the further strengthening of the organization,» he concluded.
The OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg arrived in Kyrgyzstan. He held meetings with President Sadyr Japarov, Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and Director of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security Ularbek Sharsheyev.
