One of Kurmanbek Bakiyev's brothers lives in Kyrgyzstan since 2014

The brother of ousted president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Marat, has been living in Kyrgyzstan since 2014. He himself told in an interview with one of the local media.

According to the ex-ambassador, no criminal cases were brought against him and he was not put on the wanted list.

«Why should I fled, if I didn’t commit a crime. Even when my brother Kurmanbek Salievich was in power, I did not interfere in his affairs. I have been a civil servant all my life long. Nowadays, even the father is not responsible for the children and the children are not responsible for the father, not to mention the brother. My brothers, found guilty, were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 30 years to life imprisonment. History itself will judge everything. Brother Adyl has been coming and leaving Kyrgyzstan since 2016. The court imposed a fine on brother Kanybek, he paid it and came to the country. The three of us arrived. Others can’t do this. There is a court verdict against them. Everyone is responsible for themselves. We have not interfered in politics and will not do it,» Marat Bakiyev said.

The former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Germany noted that when he first arrived home in 2014, he was called to the Internal Affairs Department of Jalal-Abad region, where he had a conversation.

«They said me not to interfere in politics and be quiet. Then they released me,» he concluded.

Last year, President Sadyr Japarov, in an interview with Kabar agency, commented on the criminal cases brought against the relatives of the fugitive head of state.

«Criminal cases have been initiated against Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Zhanysh, Akmat, Maxim, and the eldest son Marat. They are wanted. If they come, of course, they will be arrested,» he said.

Kurmanbek Bakiyev has six brothers in total. Kanybek, Zhusup, Marat and Zhanysh Bakiyevs held a number of government posts. The rest, Akhmat and Adyl Bakievs, were doing business.
