U.S. visas for 10 years: Embassy spokesperson comments on information

Spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan Anya Erokhina commented on a media report that appeared on Monday that it was planned to increase the American visa validity period for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic from five to ten years.

«Proposals to change the validity period and the fee for tourist visas to the United States for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic are being studied in Washington. Our offices in Washington are in close contact on this issue with the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the United States, and the United States Embassy in Bishkek is in close contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic,» the representative of the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic said.

We remain committed to making it easier for immigrants and non-immigrants to travel legally from the Kyrgyz Republic to the United States.

The head of the diplomatic mission of Kyrgyzstan, Baktybek Amanbaev, held a meeting with the Director of Field Operations for the Visa Affairs office of the State Department Brian McInerney on December 13. Issues of improving visa relations between the two countries were discussed.

The ambassador again asked to expedite the consideration of issues of increasing the validity of tourist and business visas from five to ten years, as well as reducing consular fees for citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic. He recalled that he had previously repeatedly discussed this issue with representatives of the U.S. authorities.

Brian McInerney said that the issue was at the final stage of consideration by the relevant U.S. authorities and a positive decision is expected. In the near future, the American side will officially notify the Kyrgyz side of the decision.
