Kyrgyzstan to ban sale of disposable bags if President signs law

Kyrgyzstan will ban the sale of single-use bags from June 1, 2024. The Parliament adopted the corresponding bill in the third reading.

The document will enter into force after signing by the President of the country.

According to the draft law on limiting the circulation of plastic film bags on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, production of disposable plastic bags will be prohibited from January 1, 2024. It is proposed to use biodegradable packaging instead.

Earlier it was reported that the ban has already entered into force in Issyk-Kul region as part of a phased switch from polyethylene to paper products. The Cabinet of Ministers will implement a phased switch from the use of plastic products to environmentally friendly paper products.
