At least 72,864 patients with diabetes mellitus have been registered in Kyrgyzstan as of the beginning of 2022. It was announced at a conference in Bishkek.
According to the Diabetes Atlas, there should be about 256,000 people with diabetes in the republic.
That is, for one patient there are 3-4 people who already have diabetes, but do not know about it. This indicates insufficient early detection of the disease.
«Great economic damage to the state is caused by early disability of people of working age. Medication provision for diabetic patients is unsatisfactory due to insufficient funding. Expenses for diabetes provide only the purchase of insulin and, partially, means of self-control for patients undergoing insulin therapy; hypoglycemic tablets are not purchased in sufficient quantities. Patients with type 2 diabetes are forced to buy them at their own expense, although under the law and the State Guarantee Program they should receive them free of charge,» members of the Diabetes and Endocrinological Association of Kyrgyzstan noted.
