Border conflict: Tajik military occupy school building in Dostuk village

Tajik servicemen occupied a school building in Dostuk village, Batken region. The Department of Information and Communications of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The servicemen of Tajikistan open fire from the border villages, thereby causing return fire on their positions. Using civilians as a human shield, the Tajik side is suffering heavy losses among the civilian population.

During the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in Batken region, units of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic fired at Lyakkan and Bogdari border outposts of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan and destroyed a significant amount of heavy equipment of the Tajik side.

The personnel of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic continues to fight fierce battles, takes adequate measures in the course of development of the situation, uses modern weapons and equipment to force the enemy to cease fire.

Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. According to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security, at about 6 a.m. the Tajik side started firing at the border detachments and positions of the Kyrgyz side. Later, the Tajik side began mortar shelling of border outposts and border villages in Leilek and Batken districts. At least 31 people were wounded. Shooting continues for the third day. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts left their homes.
