Only three criminal cases on human trafficking were initiated in Kyrgyzstan in the first half of 2022. The head of the First Department of the Main Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Marlis Dzhumabaev told journalists.
All the cases are under investigation, he said.
Nine criminal cases on human trafficking were registered and initiated in 2021. Four of them have been sent to the courts, while the rest are still under investigation.
«This is a category of latent crimes. Many victims of human trafficking withdraw into themselves, refuse to contact law enforcement agencies and write statements. But human trafficking is one of the most serious crimes, so if we find out about such cases, we initiate criminal cases on the fact. It often happens that criminal cases are initiated on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, but people are exploited on the territory of other states. Accordingly, the activities of law enforcement agencies are aimed at identifying recruiters in the Kyrgyz Republic,» Marlis Dzhumabaev said.
The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is marked every year on July 30.
