Draft of a new law «On Organic Production» has been submitted to Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. The initiator is the Cabinet of Ministers.
The document is aimed at improving the legal framework and creating a system of guarantees for the safety of organic products for consumers.
A system of certification and monitoring of organic production will appear. The state promises to create conditions for increasing competitiveness and exports.
The draftspersons note that the current version of 2019 does not quite meet the goals of development of organic production and international standards. The shortcoming is that the scope is limited only to agricultural production. The lack of regulations for import and export has also become a hindrance.
Under the new draft law, the range of organic products is expanding. It will include:
- Products of animal and vegetable origin, including beekeeping products;
- Processed agricultural products;
- Feed-stuff;
- Vegetative seed material and seeds for cultivation;
- Livestock breeding material;
- Yeast used as food or feed;
- Products gathered and processed from forest, aquatic crops, wild plants and plant materials.
The initiators of the document note that the draft law provides for a ban on the use of chemically synthesized additives. Use of GMOs is not allowed. The national logo of organic products can be used for labeling, presentation and advertising.
