Epiphany bathing canceled in Kyrgyzstan

Epiphany bathing has been canceled in the Kyrgyz Republic. The Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan diocese informed 24.kg news agency.

According to them, no blessing was given to conduct the ceremony this year. The decision was made due to an increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus and detection of Omicron strain.

«If someone has own initiatives, people want to bath, then, of course, they can do it. But there will be no bathing in the official format, as it was done earlier. Therefore, we do not provide any information. Festive church services on the day of Epiphany will be held as usual in compliance with all sanitary standards,» the diocese said.

The incidence of COVID-19 has been significantly increasing in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year. The Ministry of Health announced the beginning of the fourth wave and the emergence of the contagious Omicron strain in the country. At least 781 new cases of coronavirus and community-acquired pneumonia have been registered for the last 24 hours, including 36 in medical workers. A new clinical protocol has been approved in the country.
