Mirlan Termichikov, judge of Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek, granted the request of the investigators and decided to detain the general contractor for the reconstruction of the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata for the 1st World Nomad Games in 2014 Erkinbek Mergenbaev.
The accused was placed in Bishkek pretrial detention center 1 until January 6. The lawyer Chinara Dzhakupbekova stated about violations of the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code. The judge did not take into account the guarantee and the certificate of health of Erkinbek Mergenbaev. He has an intestinal obstruction, and needs constant medical supervision.
Earlier, Erkinbek Mergenbaev was already brought to criminal responsibility for the construction of the hippodrome. He was sentenced to six years in prison and has served 2.6 years. Then he was transferred to a penal settlement. The day before, Erkinbek Mergenbaev was repeatedly detained and placed in the pretrial detention center of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of Bishkek. The court has to issue a sanction today.
Erkinbek Mergenbaev was convicted of smuggling and evading customs duties. According to the Interior Ministry, in 2014, he imported a large amount of plastic seats into the republic without payment of fees to the budget. The damage, according to the investigation, amounted to more than 1,570 million soms.
In 2014, the company of Erkinbek Mergenbaev received an order for the reconstruction of the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata. He later blamed the state for refusing to pay for the work done.
