Open-air historical monuments may disappear in Kyrgyzstan

Historical monuments in the open air may disappear. The Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Sultanbek Zhumagulov stated this today at the parliamentary hearings on museums and museum funds and their safety.

According to him, there are 586 objects of state significance in the country. Several cultural monuments, for example the museum complex Sulaiman-Too, are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

But the state makes a little efforts for the preservation of monuments and museums in the open air, the head of the Ministry of Culture believes.

Sultanbek Zhumagulov suggests revising the legal acts in this area. «Historical monuments are used for agricultural purposes, and this is very unfortunate,» said Sultanbek Zhumagulov.

In his opinion, if the issue is not resolved, then in the next 10 years, such objects may disappear. He added that four historical monuments in Bishkek have been already lost.
