Russia is strengthening its positions in Central Asia, where the unstable situation remains due to the armed conflict in Afghanistan, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said yesterday during a meeting of the collegium of the military department.
«The situation in Central Asia remains unstable. The armed conflict in Afghanistan continues between the government forces and militants,» Sergey Shoigu said.
According to him, the Central Asian strategic direction, which is in the zone of responsibility of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation, today is one of the most important. Joint measures of operational and combat training with units of the armed forces of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are planned for the second half of the year.
