30 people suffer food poisoning at Issyk-Kul resort

Several cases of food poisoning linked to public catering facilities have been registered in Kyrgyzstan over the past month.

According to the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, a mass food poisoning incident was recorded on June 24, 2026, at Akun resort in Issyk-Kul region. A total of 30 people were affected.

All patients had consumed food at the resort’s canteen. During the inspection, violations of sanitary and epidemiological requirements were identified. Authorities issued three administrative protocols, imposed fines totaling 21,000 soms, and issued an order to eliminate the violations.

In Jalal-Abad region, several cases of food poisoning were also reported at fast-food establishments:

  • 11 people suffered after consuming shawarma, burgers, and French fries in a café located in Asman swimming pool complex (Kochkor-Ata).
  • 7 people suffered after eating shawarma in a café in Mailuu-Suu.
  • 3 people suffered after eating shawarma in Doner Kebab fast-food outlet in Manas.

Following inspections, authorities issued administrative protocols and imposed fines totaling 36,000 soms, and work of one café was temporarily suspended.

In connection with these incidents and the start of the active tourist season, the department urged owners of resorts, hotels, cafés, restaurants, and other catering establishments to strictly comply with sanitary and epidemiological requirements.

Special attention should be paid to food preparation technology, storage conditions and shelf life of products, internal production controls, timely medical check-ups and hygiene training for staff, personal hygiene rules, and all measures aimed at ensuring food safety.

Citizens are also advised to pay attention to the sanitary condition of food establishments and staff hygiene practices, avoid purchasing ready-made food from unauthorized vendors, follow personal hygiene rules including handwashing before meals, and refrain from consuming products of questionable safety.

In case of symptoms of food poisoning — such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, or severe weakness — people are urged to seek medical assistance immediately and avoid self-medication.
