Weapons used to detain violators who damaged state border barriers

The State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic reports that on June 16, border guards prevented an attempt to illegally transport livestock across the state border in Kuruk-Sai area of Batken region on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.

Around 00:30 a.m., border guards from the Batken border detachment identified two citizens of Kyrgyzstan smuggling 17 head of cattle and one horse from the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Tajikistan.

An inspection revealed that the violators had previously damaged the state border barriers by cutting the barbed wire of the fence, after which they attempted to drive the animals across the state border outside the designated checkpoints.

When detained, the violators resisted and did not comply with the border patrol’s legal orders to cease their illegal actions. In accordance with legal requirements, the senior border patrol officer fired two warning shots into the air.

Despite the warning shots, the violators did not cease their illegal actions and continued to actively resist the border patrol during their detention. In the current situation, in order to prevent the violation and detain the individuals who committed illegal actions on the state border, the border patrol used firearms.

As a result, one of the violators sustained a gunshot wound to his lower extremity.

Border guards provided first aid to the victim, and he was then taken to a medical facility in Batken, where he underwent surgery. According to medical personnel, his condition is satisfactory.

The detained individuals were handed over to law enforcement officers for further legal proceedings.

An investigation into this incident is underway.
