The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the detention of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan Ermek Sabyrzhanov in Turkey.
According to the ministry, this matter is under the control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kyrgyz diplomatic missions in Turkey.
«We are in constant contact with the detained citizen’s close relatives. The embassy is working with the competent authorities of the Republic of Turkey to assist E.S. and clarify the circumstances and reasons for his detention,» the statement reads.
Earlier, relatives reported on social media that Ermek Sabyrzhanov was detained at a Turkish airport on suspicion of ties to the FETO organization. The detainee’s wife and three young children have been staying in Turkey for about two weeks, trying to resolve the issue.
Recall, the story of a Kyrgyz teacher detained in Turkey on similar charges previously sparked widespread public outcry.
FETO is an organization associated with Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen. Turkish authorities call it the «Fethullah terrorist organization» and accuse it of attempting a coup in 2016. Supporters of the movement deny these accusations.
