The security features of Kyrgyzstan’s national currency, the som, are at a high level. Guras Japarov, a Doctor of Economics, said on Birinchi Radio.
According to him, the National Bank uses different security elements for each denomination, all meeting required standards.
«The som is generally very well protected,» Guras Japarov noted.
He added that globally, the most commonly counterfeited currencies are the U.S. dollar and the euro, while in Central Asia, the Kyrgyz som ranks among the currencies with a high level of protection.
The expert also pointed out that enhancing a currency’s security features increases the cost of banknote production. Kyrgyzstan is developing its own technologies for producing security elements, which could eventually allow the country to establish its own mint.
Earlier, President Sadyr Japarov stated that Kyrgyzstan has, for the first time in its history, begun printing its national currency independently.
