The process of nomination of candidates for deputies of rural councils for participation in the elections scheduled for November 17 has been completed. The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan (CEC) reported.
With a total of 5,391 mandates, at least 10,452 people have expressed a desire to run for deputies of rural councils. Most of the candidates are self-nominated (10,304 people).
Of the total number of mandates, 2,185 are intended for women. About 3,888 women have nominated themselves for the elections.
The CEC reminded that the reservation of at least 30 percent of mandates for women was introduced by law to activate their participation in the work of local legislative bodies.
The next stage of the election process is the verification of documents submitted by candidates and registration. Territorial election commissions will be checking the documents submitted by candidates until October 28.
The presidential decree «On the dissolution of local councils and calling the elections of deputies of local councils» was issued on September 6. Elections of deputies of local councils are scheduled for November 17.
