Speaker of Parliament demands resignation of Constitutional Court

Representative of the president in Parliament, Almasbek Abytov, asked the deputies to urgently consider amendments to the Law on the Constitutional Court, including them on the agenda.

He was supported by the Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiev. He also demanded the resignation of its entire staff, headed by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Emil Oskonbaev, for the decision on the matronymic.

«This initiative is aimed at correcting the decision of the Constitutional Court. They committed a crime against the people. They made a shameful decision. The entire composition and its head must immediately resign,» the Speaker believes.

At the beginning of the summer, the Constitutional Court instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to amend the legislation so that a person who has reached the age of 16 could change his or her patronymic or matronymic. The Judicial Board recognized that this is a gap and it is necessary to develop the institution of a matronym for children who have reached the age of 16. The Constitutional Chamber also recognized that the absence of the institution of matronym (matronymic) and the right of a capable citizen to choose between patronymic and matronymic creates conditions for violating the principles of equality and the prohibition of discrimination based on sex.

This decision of the Constitutional Court caused discontent in the highest circles of power, including the President and the deputy head of the Cabinet of Ministers — the head of the State Committee for National Security.
