Parliament of Kyrgyzstan adopts draft law on People's Kurultai

A draft law on the People’s Kurultai was adopted in the third reading at a meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. At least 69 deputies voted for, two — against.

The draft law on the People’s Kurultai, proposed by the presidential administration, was rejected by the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial and Legal Issues in May 2022.

Officials again brought the document up for discussion in March 2023. After disputes, the Parliament removed the bill from the agenda and created a working group. On May 10, the Parliament adopted the version of the working group’s draft law in the first reading.

The delegates of the kurultai expressed dissatisfaction with the version of the working group. They demanded from the deputies to adopt the document, which was prepared by the administration of the head of state, and did not make changes to it.
