Train crash in India: Sadyr Japarov expresses his condolences

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov sent a telegram of condolences to the Prime Minister of India in connection with the tragic consequences of a train crash in the state of Odisha.

«I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of the train accident in Balasore city in the state of Odisha. On behalf of the entire Kyrgyz people and on my own behalf, I express my condolences to the families and friends of those who died as a result of the railway accident, share their grief and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,» the telegram says.

According to media reports, a Coromandel Express passenger train and a freight train collided in Odisha on June 2 at around 7:20 p.m. local time. The accident occurred near Bahanaga Bazar station when the train was heading from Shalimar station near Calcutta to Chennai.

As a result, eight wagons derailed. The Hindustan Times reported that the carriages fell onto an adjacent track, where they were hit by another passenger train that was moving towards them.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the incident and said that the families of the killed would be paid 2 million rupees ($24,300), and 50,000 rupees (a little over $600) — to the injured.

It is the largest railway accident in India since the 1980s. According to local authorities, the number of victims could rise.
