WHO opposes general vaccination of children against COVID-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) does not recommend general vaccination of children and adolescents against COVID-19. This is said in a statement following a meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE), RIA Novosti reports.

The document notes that there are few cases of severe disease in this age group and, in addition, a number of countries have not yet fully vaccinated high-risk groups of population.

«The WHO does not currently recommend universal vaccination of children and adolescents because the burden of severe cases of the disease in these age groups is low and high vaccination coverage among groups at highest risk has not yet been achieved in all countries,» the document stresses.

It is worth reminding that in November, the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan decided to vaccinate adolescents aged 16-18.
