Almazbek Atambayev may stand trial. Ex-speaker of Parliament files claim

Former speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Akhmatbek Keldibekov intends to sue the former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev. He told 24.kg news agency.

Akhmatbek Keldibekov was outraged by Almazbek Atambayev’s latest television interview when he told a journalist of April TV channel about alleged corruption dealings by the former parliamentary speaker.

According to Akhmatbek Keldibekov, the former president offended his honor and dignity.

«I will defend my honor in court. I will file a lawsuit against Almazbek Atambayev and will demand to bring him to justice for lying,» said Akhmatbek Keldibekov.

The ex-president of the Kyrgyz Republic said in the television interview that «the Keldibekovs and the Tyuleevs, who became multimillionaires working in government posts, shout that Atambayev must be arrested, and the new government finds a common language with thieves and slanderers.»

Earlier, Akhmatbek Keldibekov was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, in particular, with abuse of power.

On November 12, 2015, the Pervomaisky District Court acquitted the ex-speaker, charging him only with illegal establishment of a representative office of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS countries. He was fined 3 million soms. Bishkek City Court increased the fine to 10 million. The conviction was removed from criminal record in November 2017.
