A minor girl in Tokmok was deceived into handing over 500,000 soms and gold jewelry to fraudsters posing as mobile operator employees and officers of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).
According to the Internal Affairs Department of Chui region, a Tokmok resident filed a fraud complaint with local police on June 15. She said that several days earlier, an unknown caller contacted her 16-year-old sister, introduced himself as an employee of a mobile network operator, and obtained her personal identification number under the pretext of extending a service contract.
Later, another man called the girl, claiming to be an SCNS officer. He told her that her personal data had allegedly fallen into the hands of third parties and demanded that she declare any cash and valuables kept at home. He also said that a special officer would arrive to inspect them.
Some time later, an unidentified man came to the victims’ home and was handed 500,000 soms in cash along with gold jewelry.
Police said a criminal case has been opened under the article on fraud of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
During search activities, law enforcement officers detained a suspect — a 19-year-old Tokmok resident A.K. Officers found several bank cards from different banks, mobile operator SIM cards, and a specially prepared black box believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.
The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility. By decision of the Tokmok City Court, he has been taken into custody for two months.
Investigators are currently working to identify other possible members of the criminal scheme and are also checking the suspect’s involvement in similar fraud cases.
