Football match Kyrgyzstan – Myanmar canceled due to threat of terrorist attacks

The football match Kyrgyzstan — Myanmar, which was to be held in Bishkek, was canceled due to the threat of terrorist attacks. This was reported in the information support department of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

It was noted that the match was canceled by Prime Minister Sapar Isakov’s decision. This was done to ensure security in connection with the current difficult situation in Myanmar and a great public response, as well as due to the increased terrorist threat and to prevent mass riots based on interreligious hostility.

The match was to be held in the qualifying round for the Asian Cup-2019.

«In connection with the information received from law enforcement agencies, I decided to cancel the match. The situation is under full control,» Sapar Isakov commented.

Head of the Football Federation of Kyrgyzstan Semetei Sultanov noted that while it is about transferring the match and holding it not in a Muslim country.

At the same time, for the cancellation of the match, Kyrgyzstan may face sanctions from the Asian Football Federation and FIFA. Now the Russian Football Federation is negotiating with football associations to avoid sanctions.
