1,200-megawatt thermal power plant to be built in Dzhumgal district

Construction of Kara-Keche thermal power plant, with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, will soon begin in Dzhumgal district of Naryn region. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov announced this on June 23 at a meeting with district residents during a working visit to Naryn region.

The head of state noted the project’s importance for the country’s energy system.

In June 2025, Electric Stations OJSC announced an international tender for the EPC contract for the construction of the first phase of Kara-Keche TPP.

However, in September of that year, the tender was declared invalid due to incomplete tender documentation submitted by the bidders.

The project provides for the construction of the plant, with a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts, in two phases. The first phase includes two generating units with a capacity of 300 megawatts each, while the second phase involves one additional 600-megawatt unit.

Once fully operational, the plant is expected to generate about 7.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

According to the tender documentation, the first phase was estimated to cost approximately $934 million, while the second phase was valued at about $370.6 million.
