City Hall employee detained on suspicion of extortion of one million soms

An employee of the Bishkek City Transport municipal enterprise, part of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Infrastructure of the City Hall, has been detained.

According to the State Committee for National Security (SCNS), A.K.Sh. was caught red-handed when taking a bribe of one million soms.

«It has been established that some employees of the municipal enterprise’s public procurement department systematically extorted 10 percent of the total tender cost, creating artificial obstacles and delaying the transfer of funds for completed work,» the SCNS noted.

At present, measures are underway to give a legal assessment of the actions of municipal officials, as well as to identify other individuals involved.
