Remaining trolleybuses in Bishkek to be converted into electric buses

The remaining trolleybuses in Bishkek are to be converted into electric buses. City’s Vice Mayor, Zhamalbek Yrsaliev, announced on the air of Birinchi Radio.

According to him, there are 42 trolleybuses left in the capital.

«The remaining trolleybuses produced in 2017 will be reconstructed: batteries will be installed on them and converted into electric buses,» the official explained.

Earlier, the capital’s authorities decided to abandon trolleybuses, replacing them with passenger buses. Some of the trolleybuses were transferred to the southern capital.

Earlier, the municipality proposed to transfer 100 trolleybuses to Osh, dismantling of the contact network began in Bishkek, which caused concern among some city residents. On August 29, 2024, at a session, Bishkek City Council deputies approved transfer of the trolleybuses. The first trolleybuses have arrived in the southern capital. Bishkek residents have filed a lawsuit against the City Council’s decision to transfer the trolleybuses. They believe that the decision is contrary to the law on the loan agreement for the purchase of trolleybuses No. 1191-VI and was made with numerous violations.

The Administrative Court had previously ruled to suspend the dismantling of the trolleybus contact network until a decision was made on the case.

Bishkek transferred 100 trolleybuses to Osh, 6 — to Naryn, and 10 — to Batken.
