The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will continue to cooperate with Kyrgyzstan within the framework of programs that are being implemented by it. IMF Deputy Managing Director Bo Li said at a meeting with the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov.
The parties discussed the macroeconomic situation in the country, as well as topical issues of cooperation in the spheres of energy and climate change.
The head of the Cabinet told about the current economic situation of the Kyrgyz Republic, noting economic growth of an average of 7 percent. He emphasized that this growth was achieved due to the coordination of a number of measures, including the improvement of tax administration.
Akylbek Japarov also drew attention to large projects being implemented in the republic, in particular the construction of Kambarata HPP 1, as well as the construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway. He noted their importance for strengthening energy security and economic growth.
According to the official, the Cabinet of Ministers is working on climate change in two directions.
«Firstly, this is the construction of the necessary infrastructure to minimize the effects of climate change, especially in agriculture, and secondly, a gradual transition to elements of a green economy, taking into account the specifics of the country’s economy, the macro-financial system and fiscal capacity to ensure financial sustainability,» he said.
Bo Li, in turn, noted that Kyrgyzstan’s economic indicators in recent years have been among the best in the region. He declared the International Monetary Fund’s readiness to cooperate with the republic within the framework of the programs it is implementing.
