Water volume in Toktogul reservoir drops below 10 billion cubic meters

The volume of water in Toktogul reservoir has dropped below 10 billion cubic meters. The website of Electric Stations JSC says.

Data show that as of January 16 the figure was 10 billion cubic meters, and today it has decreased by 133.9 million — to 9,866.16 billion cubic meters. Compared to data as of January 19, 2023, the volume of water in the Toktogul reservoir is 287.5 million cubic meters less.

The water inflow as of January 19, 2024 is 184 cubic meters per second. The outflow exceeds it 3.75 times — 690 cubic meters per second.

The water level in the Toktogul reservoir can tell whether we should expect power outages or not. There is a low-water period in Kyrgyzstan now. Previously, power industry specialists predicted that by April 1, the volume of water in Toktogul would be only 7 billion cubic meters.

«We had such a situation in 2014-2015. Then, as of October 1, the volume of water in Toktogul was about 11.9 billion cubic meters, and as of April 1 — 6.4 billion. So this is not the first time. We’ve experienced this already. I hope we will get through this year too,» Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev said.
