Alisher Mukazhan, Chairman of the Information Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke at the SCO Media Forum about the transformation of the media market, cooperation with major online platforms, and plans for the further development of the digital space.
According to him, traditional media outlets are now forced to compete for audience attention not only in traditional formats but also on social media and digital platforms. Therefore, Kazakhstan’s television channels, newspapers, and online publications are actively transforming into major media platforms, using modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, animation, and multimedia tools.
«Media consumption is changing depending on the age of the audience and the digital habits of users. Therefore, domestic media are striving to adapt to new conditions and use modern formats for presenting information,» he noted.
The representative of Kazakhstan emphasized that, at the direction of the country’s president, the state is supporting the media sector by allocating grants for the development of the industry and the production of domestic television, audio, and video content.
The speech focused on interaction with global digital platforms.
According to Mukazhan, Kazakhstan was one of the first countries in the region to adopt legislative mechanisms for regulating online platforms and online advertising. This work has enabled the establishment of a direct dialogue with major international digital companies and the development of rules of engagement that take into account the interests of both the state and the platforms themselves.
He noted that cooperation with online platforms has made it possible to increase the effectiveness of countering the spread of false information and destructive content on social media.
«We have built working relationships with the platforms and are seeing the results of this work. The information environment is becoming safer and better,» the head of the Information Committee stated.
The next stage of development, he stated, should be the localization of representative offices of major international platforms in Kazakhstan.
This measure will strengthen cooperation between government agencies and digital services and could also serve as a useful experience for other countries in the region.
Mukazhan also addressed the issue of compliance with online conduct standards. He emphasized that liability rules must apply both in real life and in the digital space. Kazakhstan is already working with platforms to more effectively identify and restrict offensive and obscene content in the Kazakh language.
The head of the committee also stated that Kazakhstan is actively promoting its culture, traditions, and tourism potential through digital communication channels. Domestic bloggers and content creators, who are successfully reaching an international audience, are making a significant contribution to this.
Concluding his speech, Mukazhan Alisher Kuatovich stated Kazakhstan’s readiness to share its accumulated experience with partner countries and serve as a platform for building cooperation between countries in the region and the world’s largest online platforms.
«We are ready to cooperate and exchange best practices in the development of media, digital communications, and internet regulation,» he emphasized.
