Kyrgyzstan takes 103rd place in Rule of Law Index

Kyrgyzstan scored 0.45 points in the Rule of Law Index 2023 and took 103rd place out of 142. The ranking was published by World Justice Project.

In 2022, the republic ranked 100th among 140 states.

The ranking of countries is based on eight benchmark indicators:constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, order and security, fundamental rights, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, criminal justice.

Kyrgyzstan’s worst scores are for corruption (0.29 and 130th place) and criminal justice (0.32 and 116th place).

The country’s best score is for order and security (0.73 and 68th place).

As for the CIS countries, Kazakhstan ranked 65th, Uzbekistan 78th, and Belarus 104th. Russia took the 113th place. Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan are not included in the ranking.

Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Germany are among the five most law-abiding countries in the world this year. Afghanistan, Cambodia and Venezuela take the last three lines in the ranking.

In general, the authors of the index note that since 2016, the situation with basic human rights has deteriorated in three out of every four countries in the world. More than 6 billion people live in countries where the rule of law is not respected.
