Deputy proposes to prohibit niqab and burqa by law in Kyrgyzstan

It is proposed to prohibit wearing of a headdress that completely covers the face in public places in Kyrgyzstan. MP Sharapatkan Mazhitova made such a statement at a meeting of Parliament.

She noted that Uzbekistan has adopted a law that prohibits wearing in public places of clothing that hides the face or makes it difficult to recognize an individual.

«We need this law too. Many people have started wearing burqas. Let them wear a headscarf, but they should not cover their face. It is very dangerous,» she said.

The Parliament of Uzbekistan adopted amendments and additions to the Administrative and Criminal Codes at a plenary session of the Chamber. The deputies legalized the ban on wearing face-hiding clothes in public places. The draft law provides for administrative liability for promotion of cohabitation with two or more wives.
