Sadyr Japarov tells about need to increase country's defense capability

Kyrgyzstan will continue to work to ensure the country’s defense capability and its national security. The President Sadyr Japarov said at a meeting of the Security Council.

He noted that various processes have been taking place on the border of Kyrgyzstan and in certain regions of Central Asia, directly and indirectly affecting the republic.

«It is very important to increase the defense capability of our country during the challenges and threats that occur in the world. You know that we are making a lot of efforts to improve the defense capability of the state and are doing a lot of work,» Sadyr Japarov said.

He informed that Kyrgyzstan has purchased modern weapons necessary to protect borders and citizens for the first time in 30 years.

«Not only Bayraktar drones were purchased, but also something else. We have purchased new types of weapons from our partners and allies, which have no analogues in Central Asia so far. For the needs of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the country we purchased two new Airbus helicopters. At the expense of budgetary funds, the Ministry of Defense carried out a major overhaul of five helicopters. In addition, a new Mi-17 B5 helicopter was purchased, and we are planning to purchase Mi-17 helicopters. As part of the increase in the defense capability of our republic, a modernized Pechora mobile anti-aircraft missile system was purchased, which will help to ensure protection against possible air attacks. As part of the current work, we have created a united regional air defense system with Russia,» the head of state said.

He noted that that was only the beginning.
