Kyrgyzstan puts forward its candidacy for non-permanent membership in UNSC

Kyrgyzstan put forward its candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. The country’s President Sadyr Japarov announced at the General Debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York (USA).

According to him, for successful progress in solving the current challenges and threats, it is necessary to build an effective international security system.

«The key element of this mechanism is the UN Security Council. Today it is more urgent than ever to improve the efficiency of its work to make this body fairer and more representative, to increase its ability to reach consensus in decision-making,» Sadyr Japarov noted and added that it is necessary to ensure progress in negotiations on the reform of the UN Security Council.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan expresses its readiness to contribute to the maintenance of peace and security through effective peacebuilding, respect for human rights and equal participation of women in peace processes, promotion and protection of the interests of developing, small, least developed and small island countries.

Sadyr Japarov emphasized that it is necessary to respect such principles as trust, solidarity and universality in relations between states. Only in this way, together, we will be able to restore the global and regional security architecture.
