Liquidation of public councils to cause rollback in improvement of government

The liquidation of public councils will lead to an even greater rollback from the country’s desire to transform society and the state in the direction of improving the institutions of power. Ilgiz Kambarov, executive director of Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan, stated at a press conference at 24.kg news agency.

According to him, the reasons given in favor of the liquidation of public councils defy common sense and smack of subjectivism.

«The assertion that public councils allegedly showed their inefficiency looks like a desire to deprive society of the right to participate in the fight against corruption. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to add that the public councils showed their inefficiency due to the unwillingness of the Cabinet to promote the principles of the rule of law, where the members of the public council were chosen not on the basis of fair selection, but on the basis of despotism. But despite this, those who worked honestly were able to give a lot of recommendations and suggestions, which, unfortunately, were not taken into account,» he said.

Ilgiz Kambarov added that the preservation of public councils is extremely important as an opportunity for the expert community to participate in the fight against corruption and other challenges.

A draft law of the Ministry of Justice on the abolition of public (supervisory) councils at ministries and departments appeared on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers on February 3. Their representatives appealed to the President of the country.
