First Lady of Kyrgyzstan Aigul Japarova spoke at the First International Congress for Women of Influence in Science and Culture in Tehran. Press service of the President reported.
Aigul Japarova stressed that the forum would give an important impetus to the common cause of empowering all women. She expressed hope that the Congress would become a good dialogue platform for discussing the importance of women’s contribution to the development of society, rethinking the factors of women’s leadership and creating a joint strategy for the development of the countries participating in the event.
The First Lady noted that the women of Kyrgyzstan at all times have made a huge contribution to the development and prosperity of the state. Without their active participation, it is impossible to count on the revival and enhancement of the spiritual values of multinational people, strengthening the morality of society and preserving the best features of the national character.
Aigul Japarova told about the efforts being made in the country to achieve gender equality. The issues of increasing the role of women and gender development are included in the National Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality until 2030, approved in October 2022.
In Kyrgyzstan, an institutional mechanism has been formed that covers the development of gender legislation, gender statistics and formation of a policy of special measures to support women’s leadership.
The First Lady stressed that Kyrgyzstan has legislation in the field of gender equality in terms of the political participation of women. It requires from a political party, when drawing up the list of candidates, to take into account representation: not more than 70 percent of people of the same sex. So, according to the results of the elections to the Parliament in November 2021, 19 women were elected.
To date, there are four women in the Cabinet of Ministers of the country, holding positions in such important areas as natural resources, ecology, healthcare, personal data protection, intellectual property and innovation.
The number of women in the republic reaches more than 3.3 million people, or 50.4 percent of the population. In general, their employment by type of economic activity reaches 38.4 percent.
Aigul Japarova recalled that she heads Ene-Balaga Tirek (Support for Mother and Child) Public Foundation, which is designed to help children and mothers, improve their quality of life, protect and develop their potential.
