The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) temporarily suspended the status of Russia as an observer country to the organization, as well as cooperation with Russian institutions until a new order is issued. Official statement of the organization says.
«On March 8, CERN Council held an extraordinary session to discuss future cooperation with Russia. The Council decided that CERN will promote initiatives to support Ukrainian employees and Ukrainian scientific activities in the field of high energy physics, that the observer status of the Russian Federation is suspended until further notice, CERN will not participate in new cooperation programs with the Russian Federation and its institutions until further notice,» the statement says.
The hostilities in Ukraine are ongoing. Russia started a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many countries have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions against Russia.
