Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan prepares amendments to new criminal legislation

Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan Gulbara Kalieva met with representatives of the media today.

During the meeting, she noted that all judges were trained in new criminal legislation.

«We have trained all the judges. The new criminal legislation has already been passed; we cannot discuss it, since we are a law enforcement body. Perhaps, there could be collisions and flaws in adoption of the new codes. However, they can be corrected by changes and additions. For example, there is a collision between the Code of Misdemeanors and the Criminal Procedure Code in relation to private prosecution cases. Less serious crime is a misdemeanor. The Code of Misdemeanors states that pre-trial proceedings are carried out by the internal affairs agencies, and the Criminal Procedure Code states that an applicant may go to court,» Gulbara Kalieva told.

«We want these cases to be investigated by law enforcement officers,» the head of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic added.

She noted that the adoption of new codes was a step forward.

«For example, the introduction of the Unified Register of Offenses and Crimes already speaks about transparency. Of course, there is a restructuring of law enforcement agencies. They have hard time,» Gulbara Kalieva stressed.
