The official opening ceremony of a Traditional Crafts Center was held at the Gapar Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts. This event was made possible through cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Korea.
The event was attended by Mirbek Mambetaliev, Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy, and Kim Kwang-jae, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Kyrgyz Republic. In their speeches, they noted the project’s special significance for strengthening cultural ties between peoples and the importance of preserving national heritage.
Guests at the ceremony were the first to explore the new center. They were given a tour and presented two unique exhibitions: «Textiles. The Thread Linking Time» and «Nest. From Nomadic Traditions to 21st-Century Modernism.» These expositions vividly illustrated the path of Kyrgyz art from its ancient origins to today’s most current trends.
The program concluded with Khan Bazaar handicraft fair. Local artisans showcased their best works, demonstrating the public’s keen interest in authentic handicrafts.
In addition to Bishkek, similar centers are being established in Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions. The main goal of these venues is to popularize folk crafts, update them in line with modern requirements, and enhance the prestige of artisans in society.
