No Kyrgyzstanis among victims of earthquakes in Japan

There are no Kyrgyzstanis among those killed or injured as a result of the earthquakes in Japan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported with reference to the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Japan.

Five citizens of Kyrgyzstan staying in the city of Toyama (near the epicenter) were evacuated from their homes to nearby shelters. The ministry and the Embassy are monitoring the situation and are in contact with Kyrgyzstanis staying in Japan.

If necessary, Kyrgyzstanis should contact the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic using the hotline number +819063787231.

At least 30 people have been killed and dozens injured in a powerful earthquake in Japan. Authorities warn of significant damage and numerous casualties — the scale of the tragedy will be assessed when rescuers reach the affected areas, BBC reported.

A magnitude 7.6 earthquake hit central Japan on Monday near the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. Many buildings were destroyed and tens of thousands of people were left without electricity.

More than 97,000 people were ordered to evacuate and they spent the night in sports halls and schools used as emergency evacuation centers, the Japanese government reported.
