More than 2,000 measles cases registered in Kyrgyzstan

More than 2,018 cases of measles have been registered in Kyrgyzstan Gulbara Ishenapysova, Director of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis of the Ministry of Health, said at a press conference.

She noted that an immunization campaign has been launched in the country in response to the measles outbreak. More than 700,000 children aged from nine months to seven years old inclusive are planned to be vaccinated. Emphasis will be placed on the regions of the country that are epidemiologically unfavorable for measles. It is planned to cover 85 percent of the target group from September 18 to September 29.

Gulbara Ishenapysova noted that the rubella and measles vaccine, which will be used to vaccinate children, has been used in many countries of the European region and neighboring countries.

«The vaccine is prequalified by WHO, meets all the requirements in terms of safety and effectiveness,» she added and also reminded that measles vaccination is included in the National Vaccination Calendar and is done twice: at 12 months and six years.
