Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan should reach $2 billion

Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Shakiev met with the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as part of his official visit to Kazakhstan. Press service of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The state of interstate relations was discussed at the meeting. The parties exchanged views on issues of expanding cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

Nurlanbek Shakiev stated that the Kyrgyz side was interested in developing relations with Kazakhstan, stressing the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties. He also dwelled on the issues of economic cooperation and focused on the implementation of tasks to increase the volume of trade between the two countries to $2 billion in the near future.

«We are not only strategic partners, but also close brotherly countries that have always lived in peace and harmony. Therefore, we need to successfully implement the agreements reached and continue our cooperation,» the Speaker of the Parliament said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that relations between the two states have been actively developing in recent years, and stressed that all issues are resolved promptly through negotiations.

He touched upon the issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. «Last year, the Days of Culture of Kyrgyzstan were held in Kazakhstan at a high level, and cultural ties between our peoples with similar traditions and customs reached a new level. I believe that this contributes to the strengthening of friendship and fraternal relations between our countries,» Kassym-Jomart Tokayev added.
